NSA-NYC ONLINE NEWSLETTER Published Quarterly WINTER 2003
New York City Chapter of the National Speakers Association
|
Dear NSA-NYC Friends,
Here we are again, a little late. We can blame it on the weather, but
instead, the fact is that we've had many programs going on in NSA-NYC that
took our attention.
Updates from the board on these activities are included in this edition.
You'll read the latest on Fast Track, Speakers University and our upcoming
calendar for the rest of the year through June,2004.
You'll also read about what your colleagues have been doing and plan to do
in the coming months. The hope is that this will be an inspiration to you to
write that article, get that radio interview or work on that book you've
been thinking about.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that 2004 will be filled with
love, good health and peace.
Warmly,
Dottie Burman

2. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
[Editors note: Although our goal is to increase paid presentations, I know
that many of us continue to do community service prorgrams. Of course, these
can sometimes lead to paid work. However, as you will see, there is another
kind of payoff in doing this.]
Roslyn Rolan writes,"On October 21, I co-sponsored an event at the Northern
NJ Gilda's Club in Hackensack, NJ. called 'Redefining Personal Beauty' which
was presented to over 50 female cancer survivors who were drained of color
and energy after going through radiation and chemical therapy. Prior to the
event, eight of the women received makeovers at my co-sponsor's Aesthetics
Salon. The beauticians cut and colored the women's hair, and I did their
makeup. I also took their before and after photographs. I then presented a
two hour workshop on personal color, skin care and the use of proper makeup.
Trish McEvoy company donated makeup samples for all the guests. It was a
huge success, with some media coverage. However the main purpose was
achieved of giving encouragement to these women who had suffered so much."
3. MEMBER ACTIVITIES COMPLETED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 15,2003 and DECEMBER 15, 2003.

Care Benefit for children in hospitals. This is a variety show at the West
Bank Theater recorded for NY Cable.
Mary Bryant appeared on the MSG Network Show, "ANGLES with Al Trautwig" just
several hours after crossing the 26.2 mile NYC Marathon finish line, to
comment on 'Running for a cause' year after year. P.Diddy was doing his
first. She was also a returning guest on talk radio WVOX, WRTN: The Bill
Mazer Show, to discuss the benefits of Ti Chi in cancer patients.
Victoria Labalme appeared in HBO/Sex & The City re-runs, and on national
network television spots for Champion Mortgage.
5. BOOKS AND TAPES PUBLISHED
Bob Danzig's two newest books are now in stores and amazon.com, walmart.com
plus on the website for the Child Welfare League - CWLA.
"Every Child Deserves A Champion" with song CD inside cover and a gift book
"There Is Only OneYou" also with song CD inside cover will have ALL proceeds
donated to The Child Welfare League for their work for foster children.
[Editor's Note: I am including Bob's description of how he has marketed this
book as an inspiration to all of us.] He wrote:
"The books have had abundant publicity: featured in Parade magazine (34
million readers); The Newark Star -Ledger as well as moved on the NYTimes
news wire as a feature to more than 600 newspapers. Also was 6:00 news human
interest feature Thanksgiving Day on 29 major market TV stations with 2.7
million viewers . Books were Foundation sponsored as gifts to the foster
care community of parents/social workers/foster children over age 12 in
Colorado. Other State foundations are evaluating similar gifting programs.
Both books are for general reading public and have the foster care element
only as a mechanism to attract the 18,000 member agencies of The Child
Welfare League to access the inspirational messages of the books. The
author grew up in foster care and sought this national connection with CWLA
who are the publishers."

7. FREE SERVICES OR MATERIALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER TO CHAPTER MEMBERS
SPEAKING OPPORTUNITY
Sal Musco
It's a bit off Broadway.
Ok, it's WAY off Broadway... in New Jersey, but a terrific 20 min. spot for
breaking in new material or just logging some extra 'flight time'. The
audience is a 30-40 member Rotary club; the venue, a First Class hotel -
that serves a first class breakfast, the fee... by special arrangement, and
at great personal sacrifice, I've persuaded them not to charge you a dime!
Anyone interested (other gigs may also be coming available) should please
contact me, NYTS member, Sal Musco at sal@salmusco.com
Jaymie Meyer
I would like to offer a one-on-one 60 minute session to anyone who would
like to practice yoga. My home studio or your Manhattan home are possible
locations. I work with people at beginning and intermediate levels - from a
very gentle practice to more challenging. Any questions e-mail: jaymie@jaymie.com

Kahney of Marketorial, who tweaks websites to make them rank higher in
Google and other search engines. Originally my site was virtually
unfindable through pertinent keyword searches. After Regina's efforts, my
site now ranks at or near the top in every important category. The result -
an big increase in inquiries about my services. Regina Kahney
