ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS
GRACIELA ROGERIO
Medical Producer
WABC-TV
As the medical producer for WABC-TV News team, Graciela Rogerio has teamed
up with Dr. Jay Adlersberg, the medical reporter for Eyewitness News, to
produce Seven ON Call, a daily report and special feature on medicine. For
almost two decades, their nightly news reports have touched on most of the
medical breakthroughs, challenges and developments of this era. As a news
producer, she has also produced non-medical special reports, including
in-depth pieces from Nicaragua and South Africa.
Before joining WABC-TV in 1981, Graciela was a writer and producer at
WNEW-TV Channel 5 in New York City, where she rose to become the producer of
The Ten O'Clock News for the last two years of her tenure there. She began
her television career at the PBS station in Austin, Texas.
This year, Graciela received the Athena Award for her work in medical
reporting from the Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia
University; She was also recently honored as Journalist of the year by
HPRMS, the Healthcare and Public Relations Marketing Society.
She has also been the recipient of a Science Writing Fellowship from the
Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachussetts; a Benton
Fellowship from the University of Chicago, where she selected medicine,
theology and history as her study subjects, and last year was one of twelve
invited journalists to the 64th annual scientific meeting of the College on
Problems of Drug Dependence held in Quebec, Canada. She was invited to
return to the 65th annual meeting as a panel participant. She has also taken
part in panel discussions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New
York University Medial Center, the Long Island Coalition for Fair Media, and
the Hispanic Women's Network in Texas.
A native of Texas and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she
now resides in the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
Arnie Mazer
Producer, Writer and Performer.
Currently he works as a writer at Fox 5 News, WCBS News Radio 880, produces
The Leon Charney Report and is the Executive Producer of The Bill Mazer
Radio Show.
He is a graduate of Hobart College where he studied history and
communications, worked at several radio stations and performed in television
commercials. After graduation Mazer went to New York City where he pursued a
career in Theater. Arnie worked in both Hollywood and New York, appeared in
such films as Diner and Taps, then made his Broadway debut with George C.
Scott in On Borrowed Time.
In the early 1990's Arnie appeared on the MAZER IN THE MORNING program on
Newstalk 1050 WEVD, New York as a film reviewer. His natural relationship
with the host, Bill Mazer, led to Arnie's decision to become the show's
Producer. With Bill Mazer at its helm, the MAZER IN THE MORNING program
became a viable alternative to the usual chatter flowing over talk radio.
With seven years of talk radio production under his belt, Arnie segued his
way into television. Even though his primary training was for theater and
film the education he received allowed Mazer to feel comfortable both in
front and behind the camera. Stints as an Analyst for The NCAA Lacrosse Game
of the Week followed as well as Producing hard news and a Documentary.
With the kind of multi media experience he's had, Mazer adheres to one
theory: It's the message, not the medium that's important.
